Buy SR22 Insurance

Reader’s Question:

I recently got into an accident, and I got a court order telling me to show my sr22 insurance. I haven’t heard of this kind of insurance before. Anyway, where do I buy sr22 insurance?

Mikey,

Sacramento, CA

Technically, you don’t buy sr22 insurance from an insurance company. Rather, it’s a form that you obtain from your insurance companies showing that you’re insured for liability. Since you got slammed with an order to show a sr22 form, the probability is high that you got suspended. This could be because you were either driving an uninsured car, got convicted of a traffic-related offense, like DUI, got multiple traffic tickets, or had your license revoked.

Here’s what you have to do: you’re going to have to get some car insurance. That’s the first step to getting a sr22 form. Again, you don’t buy sr22 insurance. You just have to contact a car insurance agency that provides sr22 forms and get insured. Once that’s done, you can negotiate with them on how much it’ll cost for them to process a sr22 form with the Department of Motor Vehicles.

Now you’re going to have to do some insurance hunting. That’s because not all insurance companies offer to file sr22 forms for you. Be very careful and specific when you say you need sr22 insurance forms. Search the internet for nearby agencies that process sr22 forms along with insurance. They’ll help you find the cheapest possible insurance you can get, since you’re definitely going to have to pay extra for an insurance premium because of the implications of being ordered by a court to present sr22 forms.

Minimum Liability Insurance New Hampshire NH

Reader’s Question:

I’m from New Hampshire and am quite aware that drivers are not required to have car insurance. What could be the reasons why my teenage son was required to obtain one?

Sharon

Manchester, NH

The State of New Hampshire still has this very traditional and old-fashioned philosophy of minimized regulation. This is why car insurance coverage is not required to its drivers. But while New Hampshire does not force its motorists to carry at least the liability insurance, some drivers are required to carry it.

Normally, a violation or conviction for traffic infractions triggers this car insurance requirement. A driver convicted for Driving While Intoxicated (DWI) in New Hampshire will be required to obtain minimum liability insurance. Another case could be accumulation of multiple Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) Demerit Points.

A notice will be mailed by the state informing a driver of insurance requirements. Since your son has been required to acquire liability insurance, he must have had multiple traffic tickets or a DWI violation (and just hasn’t informed you yet). The state will request proof of financial responsibility from his insurance carrier. This form, the SR22, will be filed by the insurance company to the Department of Motor Vehicles on your son’s behalf to show that he has obtained coverage. If he has been charged with DWI, the SR22, meaning the liability insurance coverage, will be carried for three years. If traffic tickets triggered this insurance requirement to your son, then you can expect high insurance rates.

Automotive Insurance on Broken Windshields Florida FL

Reader’s Question:

A tree branch fell and hit my windshield. Now, it’s all broken, and I’m just waiting for the glass to fall off. Will my automotive insurance cover this damage? Are there any rules here in Florida that says anything about broken windshields?

Antoine

Miami, FL

In most states, a comprehensive coverage of a vehicle covers glass breakage. Often, if it’s the windshield that gets broken, repair or replacement is done immediately. The windshield is considered as the most important window for the driver, therefore it is typically given that much attention to prevent related future accidents. Auto insurance companies that cover this kind of damage require that you buy comprehensive coverage that comes with a full glass/windshield coverage listed in the deductible section. However, there are certain states that don’t cover this at all.

In Florida, there are rulings that waive the deductible on the physical impairment coverage if you need to have your broken window (such as the windshield) replaced. With this, it is expected that drivers will immediately take care of their damaged windshield, so as to avoid further damage or accidents.

If your auto insurance policy has physical damage coverage, contact your auto insurance agent to claim for the replacement of your damaged windshield. The company will most likely notify you for any deductible that is due for that replacement. You may also try to ask the insurance agent to explain to you the terms and conditions of your policy with regards to your claim, as well as the state laws that may affect this coverage to avoid confusion in case a similar incident happens again in the future.

Car Insurance Premiums Nevada NV

Reader’s Question:

I am about to buy a car insurance policy here in Nevada. But before I do, I want to know where car insurance companies put the money I paid them for premiums.

Scott

Sparks, NV

I appreciate you wanting to know about something as important as your car insurance. Now, the major element in determining car insurance premiums is the cost of paying for accidents, as well as the expenses connected with settling them. Some other outlay is for marketing and advertising, salaries and commission for the agent and broker, and general overhead expenses. Expenditures are offset by the earnings by the insurance provider when they invest the money you pay for premiums.

Results of car insurance underwriting basically has a cycle that goes on for several years and can also affect your premiums. They usually have a several good years then some bad years then back to good years. If the investments that they have made good earnings, they may delay the expenses and casualty in underwriting. Some companies like to have some excess beyond expenditures and offset expenses, so they can accumulate more profits. Some states also impose that the insurance companies have some cash reserves above the minimum, which usually affects premiums.

Now before you purchase anything, look around and get quotes from different providers. You should also ask your agent there in Nevada about some discounts that you can avail of, so you can get the highest possible coverage for your money. Good luck!

Non Owners Car Insurance Texas TX

Reader’s Question:

If I get in an accident with a car that I just rented, who will be responsible for the damages? I live in Texas.

Brenda

Corpus Christi, TX

Like most states, Texas is a tort state. In an accident there in Texas, someone has to be at fault, and this person and his auto insurance company is going to be liable for all the damages made in the accident.

Now, in the case of rented vehicles, rent-a-car companies typically offer collision damage waivers and liability policies as well. A collision damage waiver is not an insurance policy but an agreement that the auto rental company will waive its right to be paid for all the costs of the damage of the auto by the renter of the vehicle regardless of who is at fault in the accident. The basic liability required in Texas may be able to cover for some of the damages inflicted in the car if you get to an accident there in Corpus Christi, Texas, but your coverage limit may not be enough to pay for the actual value of the rented car. So, it is going to depend on you if you rent cars often. If you do, I think it is better to just raise the liability limit on your auto insurance policy, rather than buy collision damage waivers every time you rent.

But in the case that you don’t actually own a car and just borrow or rent, you can avail of a non-owner liability policy that pays for the damages and injuries you cause but not for the damage of the vehicle you are driving.

Vehicle Insurance Policy Burbank California CA

Reader’s Question:

Help! I no longer have auto insurance. My name is Belle, I’m in Burbank,CA, and my driving days are numbered. Is there life after auto insurance cancellation? What happens next?

Belle

Burbank, CA

You did not mention why you no longer have auto insurance. Was it cancelled? What was the reason? Non payment? Did you not renew it? Anyway, to answer your question: There is life after cancelled auto insurance. Have faith. I can think of a few reasons why an insurance policy can get cancelled or refused renewal: license expiration or suspension or revocation, failure to pay premium on time, or failure to fully disclose facts about your driving and claims history to the insurance company. When an insurance policy gets cancelled, you usually get a few days, usually between 10 to 30 days, before the insurance gets completely cancelled. So hopefully, you won’t have to drive without insurance. The insurance company would usually give you the reason for the cancellation, so try to avoid it/those next time.

As I said, there is life after cancellation. You can still apply for insurance. If the reason for the cancellation is late or non payment of premium, you may still try to have the policy reinstated. That’s usually easier or cheaper than getting one from a different auto insurance company. Of course, getting insurance policy from another company is an option. Generally, your policy premium will be higher, if not painful, from now on. Look around Burbank, CA. Take heart. You’ll find the insurance company that’s right for you.

What is the meaning of “graduated licensing” law; is it enforced in Cincinnati Ohio OH and what does it mean in connection to my auto insurance premium?

Lee

Cincinnati Ohio OH

Hi there, Lee

Cincinnati Ohio OH has what is called as the “graduated licensing” law for teenage drivers. This is the different stages in teenage driving to allow them to obtain experience gradually by having them drive under low risk environment and eventually having the experience increased to more difficult conditions. In Cincinnati, Ohio OH, this “graduated licensing” period begins at the age of 15.5. This phase will give parents with teenagers a chance to prolong the period of having to be charged with auto insurance premiums. Auto insurance companies in the state of Ohio allow parents to list their adolescents under their auto insurance policy without any additional auto insurance premium. Auto insurance premiums will start after their teenage son or daughter has already obtained their driver’s license. Also note that auto insurance policies wherein adolescents are included or auto insurance policies for adolescents alone will definitely have higher auto insurance premiums than any other kind of auto insurance. There are two stages of “graduated licensing”, the learner’s stage which has the minimum entry age of 15.5 and the intermediate stage which has 16 as the minimum age. In the state of Ohio, the learner’s stage is required to have 50 hours of supervised driving with 10 hours during night time. For the intermediate stage, 16 year old teens are prohibited to drive alone between midnight and 6 in the morning and 17 year olds are not allowed to drive by themselves from 1 a.m. to 5 a.m. Adolescents in the intermediate stage are also allowed to have no more than one passenger in the car when driving.
