Reader’s Question:
I’m from Huntsville, AL and I’ve been driving a company car for the last 20 years or so. I’m thinking if I plan to retire, will an insurance company take into account that I was with no-claims discount for a car of my own? I own a classic vehicle on a special classic auto insurance policy but as it’s very cheap with limited mileage (1500 miles) and there is no NCD.

Once you retire, you can ask your previous employer for a letter stating that you’ve driven their vehicles for a certain number of years without a claim, which should go towards a few extra years to your NCB from your Huntsville Alabama insurance; good luck and enjoy your retirement.
Some companies will take it into account if you get a letter from your employer to confirm that you’ve had no accidents. I’ve done this and have got a confirmation from the company’s insurer that I had been driving without claims and I was then allowed 5 years NCD on my own car insurance.
You need a letter from your company’s insurer confirming no claims and I would suggest going to a broker. You must NOT assume that such a letter is ‘proof of a no claims bonus’ – your broker should know how to get you the best deal with the letter.
