My boyfriend will visit me here in East San Gabriel Valley, California and will be staying here for a couple of days. He is an American citizen but has Mexican car insurance since he lives and works in Mexico. Is it possible for him to get California car insurance for his vehicle just for a couple of days since he’s planning to drive it when he comes and visits me?

What I know is that in general, auto insurance in California has a policy period for 6 months or 1 year. This is if you are going to purchase car insurance policy through a regular auto insurance company. However, from what I learned there are auto insurance companies that offer such policy for a short period of time like in your boyfriend’s case, for just a couple of days. You need to look to auto insurance companies that specialize in what they call border insurance if I am not mistaken.
However, before you do that I would say it’s better to ask your boyfriend’s car insurance carrier in Mexico to know if they can extend the coverage while he visits you in East San Gabriel Valley, California. If not, then don’t let your boyfriend drive around California without auto insurance. do you research and find car insurance company that offers border insurance.
