Reader’s Question:

Aside from DUI, what other violations can lead me to being requested with insurance with sr22? And what are the things that I have to know about SR-22?

Lloyd

Daly City, CA

SR-22 is mostly requested from drivers who ran into traffic violations such as failure to carry their licenses, lack of insurance, insurance violations, and suspension of licenses. Drivers do not exactly see SR-22 as a document that they’d like to carry around with.

Usually, insurance with sr22 is needed so that the state can monitor drivers and ensure that they can keep their vehicle insurance for up to 3 years. If a driver is being requested to get insurance with sr22, he or she should request an insurance company to furnish SR-22 with the state’s department of motor vehicles.

Because of the SR-22 issued by the insurance company, the driver has to keep a good record in terms of paying his or her premiums. Insurance companies may cancel the SR-22 filing if the driver fails to pay his premiums on time.

Remember to bring your SR-22 insurance every time you drive your vehicle unless you want to get into more serious and complicated trouble with your state’s motor vehicle department.

Reader’s Question:

I am looking for the cheapest auto insurance quotes. I had a DUI conviction in Florida two years ago and, boy, it really made my auto insurance go over the roof. When can I get over the DUI record?

Alfred

Jacksonville, FL

Alfred, you do not get over the DUI conviction on your record. You will keep it forever. If you are looking for cheapest auto insurance quotes because of the insurance increase, then consider a good solid plan of action. What you can do is to keep sober and keep your traffic records clean for a period of time. In this way, you can prove that you did actually change since your DUI conviction.

Your auto insurance is high because of this SR 22 form issued the insurance provider after you got your DUI conviction. An SR 22 form is that document saying that auto liability insurance is applicable and current for the driver. This is issued after you failed to give proof of your financial responsibility during the DUI conviction. Each state has its own version of the form, and they also have their own schedule as to how long you need to carry it. For example, California DMV does not give time limits for SR 22 forms. Fortunately, for you, in Florida, the SR 22 forms are issued and required for you to carry for three years only. Your insurance increased after you got that SR 22 because you were considered as a high risk driver at that point. The rate of increase is set by your insurance provider. Also any discounts you might have enjoyed before are revoked because of the conviction.
