Reader’s Question:

I am shopping for car insurance in Amarillo Texas and came across with full coverage auto insurance policy. Does this policy mean that if I’m involved in a vehicular accident, then my insurance company will pay for all the damages incurred from that accident, including the damage on my part and the other party’s damage?

You are correct, to some extent.

To give you a clearer idea, let me compare liability insurance and full coverage insurance.

Liability insurance policy covers for property damage and bodily injury for the OTHER party involved in a vehicular accident. You must remember this does NOT cover you or your vehicle. So, in an event of a car accident, the other driver’s involved will be covered by this policy, (be it a damage to the car or physical injury). This kind of policy is sometime called “third party polices”.

Full coverage insurance on the other hand refers to an insurance policy that covers YOUR car in an event that an accident happened. This is commonly referred to comprehensive and collision coverage. Comprehensive policy covers damage to the vehicle as a result of non-vehicular related accident such as fire, hail, theft, vandalism etc. Collision policy on the other hand covers the damages incurred when your vehicle collided with another vehicle or property. But you must remember your insurance company will only cover the damages depending on your limits.

Always check with your auto insurance agents to see which company offers the best policy that meet your needs. Or better yet, check the website now for you to get faster result and information about insurance policies.
