Reader’s Question:

I heard from a friend that he is trying his best to purchase auto insurance but nothing is really happening. I am wondering, how come I didn’t have a problem getting auto insurance policy in Minnesota but that’s exactly the opposite for my friend’s case? What could be the reasons for that? All that he told me is because he is considered a high risk driver. We both live in the same place by the way.

I’m sorry to hear that Kaleigh. I hope your friend will be able to find a car insurance company willing to insure him.

To answer your question, there are several reasons why a person is not able to get auto insurance policy through car insurance companies. Let me give you some of the popular reasons:

First, is your friend’s driving record. If he has poor or bad driving record, then it would be harder for him to get an insurer willing to insure him;

Second, if he is driving a very expensive and high performance automobile;

Third, he does not own an automobile for a long time thus your friend does not have insurance records;

Fourth, his driving experience. Your friend may not be driving long enough that’s why car insurance companies are skeptical to insure him; and

Lastly, your friend’s place of residence. If he lives in an area where there is a high incidence of vandalism and robbery then insurers will likely doubt that he is safe to be insured.

Since you’ve mentioned that your friend is a high risk driver then I would suggest that your friend tries to check on websites to see if he could get a car insurance company willing to insure him or seek the help of his car insurance agent.
