Reader’s Question:

I let my daughter drove my car and unfortunately she was involved in a vehicular accident. What’s even worse is that it was her fault. How is this going to affect my car insurance rate? Since I have insurance on that vehicle, will my car insurance company in Antioch, California cover the damage? Do I still have to pay for the damages incurred on the car from the accident?

Isis

I am very sorry for what happened to your daughter.

First thing that you need to do is to file the claim. Whether your car insurance company will pay for the damage or not depends entirely on them. In most cases though, when you allow another person to drive your car, then the car insurance is extended to that person. Meaning to say, your car is still covered, whether you are the one driving or not.

However, there are still some exemptions on this rule. For instance, I am assuming that your daughter still lives with you but if you were not able to add your daughter to your policy, then there might be a problem regarding your claims.

As to your question on how this is going to affect your car insurance rate, it can affect your car insurance rate to go up since the claim will go to your car insurance policy. If you’ll ask me how much the increase would be, it’s best to talk to your car insurance agent in Antioch, California for details. If it does go up beyond your imagination, then you can start looking for affordable auto insurance quotes in your area by using this website.
